Er. Vincent T. H. CHU obtained the degree of civil and structural engineering in the University of Hong Kong. He is the author of the monthly column “The Civil FAQ” in the Hong Kong Engineer published by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers and is the author of the civil engineering monthly columns “The Civil Q&A” and “The Civil Corner” on the websites on World Federation of Engineering Organization and the University of Science and Technology (American Society of Civil Engineers – International Student Group) respectively. He is the recipient of the Ombudsman’s Award 2007 under complaint-related category and Young Engineer of the Year Award 2008 (Merit) organized by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers. He is also the author of the engineering book “200 Question and Answers on Practical Civil Engineering Works”, “Civil Engineering Practical Notes A-Z” , “Ask Vincent Chu (Common FAQ on Practical Civil Engineering Works)” and “The Underlying Reasons in Practical Civil Engineering Works”.

    Dear sir,
    if we consider a tier contact area for 200×200 mm which is 40000 and in our expansion joint the loading capabilities is 6.5kg/mm2. What is the maximum loading capacity in kn/m2 and also in kg /mm2 for moving load and in what point the deflection is accour please specify in details.

    My Contractor wants to put 8mm bar rod on both main and distribution bar on a slope slab.He wants the thickness of slab of 5 inch approximately. There are two slope on roof with measuring 4 foot and 5 foot.please advice .

    Sir, I am facing a situation where i have to design an existing structure to the extension as planned. So i am facing a problem in case where how exactly the homogeneity is maintained for the both structures. Please clarify the above mentioned and please suggest me the codes which will give guidelines about grouting as well as anchoring as per IS code of design.

    Sir . I consulted a guy to get my house constructed.
    Everything gone fine , but the soil is quite rocky . So , constructed is suggesting to make foundation of just 3.5 feet in Slope footing.

    Will such design sustain a 3 story long house with complete strength ?
    I need suggestion , please help.

    Please Suggests correct procedure for construction joint inside of pedestal improper compaction,
    Due to improper compaction, it may be some air voids is there inside concrete.

      Mycem is one of the best cement becouse it blends mixture properly and give mixture proper potential to set in less time with less quantity…
