I am studying in BE. I want to know how to make a high strength concrete which can resist impact load of 1000000lbs energy.
also that concrete slab should resist drill attack.

We are planning to revise foundation design for a heavy structure.
It is a chimney like strucutre having ht verying from 66.0 to 88.0 meters.
At the top having dead load of 40-45 tonnes. Consideration of loads, wind pressures etc.
We want a pre cast concrete foundation. Is it possible?

Hi,
I am working as a Civil engineer from last 9 years, i want to know what are the lastest opportunities for a civil engineer? what are the latest jobs in civil field? is there any opportunity for the civil engineers in software field?

Thank You.

What is the optimum moisture content, for compaction of Sandy clay w/gravel – Sp.G.>3/8″=2.80
Rock corrected test results = Max. dry density=136.4 , optimum moisture=6.9%.

Thank You
Craig

Gobind says:

hi craig,

r u asking bout definition of optimum moisture content because in ur query optimum moisture is given i.e optimum moisture=6.9%. it is the percentage of moisture at wich soil sample will have maximum density it can attain after compaction. this can experimantly checked in lab by Proctors test

hi santosh,

regarding ur problem u can refer a book known as reinforced concrete by H.J SHAH volume 2. in this there is content to analyse cylendrical undeground water tank. basically in cse of cylendrical tank soil pressure causes only compression in concrete section so u can refer the refrence for exact calculation

hi abaashik,
theres new code for limit state for design of steel structures i.e IS 800 2007. one refrence book by SUBRAMANAYAM has been revised according to new code.

hi chopperla,
now a dyas spread footings are analysed by finite element method using computers. but at ur stage in second year u can refer R.C.C by A.K Jain aor Foundation engineering by varghese.

hi balasaheb,

As design for foundation of chimeney like structures is governed by wind load or earthquke loads that can overturn or uplift the foundation, so these forces takled majorly by self weight of foundaion as caston site. for precast it is possible but there we need to consider the transportation loads i.e after casting of foundation it need to be sent to site where it will be actually placed during transportation the way we carry it matters because during transportaion some streses will be devloped due to its self weight wich will not occur if we cast it on site there those foundations need to be designed for that also. it is possible but somewaht an unecnomical option

sir,
i am a civil engineer, completed my Btech from nss college of engineering Palakkad, KeralaUNDER Calicut university in year 2000.
i would like to know there r may under ground and over head taks made of ferro cement in good condition. but me studied the design of concrete water tanks , but by design we always get a tank with minimum size 15cm wall. how is the ferro cement tank of very thin walls behaving for the same load as that of thiker wall we normaly desinging for tanks. what is the diff in analysis. if thin ferro cement tank is stable why we are going for big tanks/

thank you

Dear Sir

In case of a Gr + First floor industrial building presently the ground floor is designed with 10 m x 10 m structural grid to support first floor for a 5T/m2 capcity building.

In case I need to increase the spacing of grid width of 10 m to 30 mtr what should be best option so that the ground floor will be more spacious

pl suggest

Ashok
