Hai sir, Can u say what is the diffrence between “Centering” & “shuttering”

    • Gopinath.S December 4, 2011 at 11:57 am

Centering is mainly provided for the slabs and beams…….
Shuttering is provided for the columns and foundation sides while pouring concrete..
Both centering and shuttering serves the same purpose of pouring the concrete in a confined region…

    • Abhishek Yogesh January 21, 2012 at 4:14 am

Centering means “giving bottom support by the centering sheet for the roof ( slab )only ” shuttering means giving side support for the beams and columns ” they may b steels as well as woodens

  • pramod Tiwari November 22, 2011 at 2:06 am

centering refers to horizontal part of the false work and shuttering refers to vertical part i.e sides of beam, sides of slab etc.

  • Amar November 26, 2011 at 6:07 am

centering in broad sense can be regarded in case of flooring rxcepting that used in roof, slabs
but practically shuttering is used only in slabs becuz we dont need it in construction of other. This is basic but as you construct with Aluminium formwork for shear walls both centering and shuttering have taken other aspects leaving basic so for ease consider as Pramod said for reference but that not in case of specialisation works.

you have to choose the same cross-section but the problem with alluminium is that it get shrinked during winter season .which may cause the leakage problem .and MS is brittel in nature ,increase cost and weight

I want to know the w/c ratio for m30 grade concrete and the 7 days compressive strength of m20 grade concrete

    • Arun Kurali February 7, 2012 at 8:19 am

W/C for M30 is 0.45 as per IS456:2000 but you can adopt 0.44 M20 compressive strength at 7 days shoud be more than 14Mpa for any grade strength at 7 days should be more than 2/3 of fck

When we are in a hurry to tie steel at construction site, because of non availability of resources, we tie the steel at once receiving the same. But when we send the steel for testing it fails. Then what is the remedy?
