What is a wall?

Sounds like a silly question, but if a specification calls for a wall (in a civil engineering context), what range of structures would be included? Obviously brick, stone, concrete and so on, but what about 3-metre high x 100m long compacted earth--is that a wall? Are there any reliable sources for such a decision?

    Thanks in anticipation.

  3. An upright structure of masonry, wood, plaster,or other building material serving to enclose, divide,or protect an area, especially a vertical construction forming an inner partition.
